Reasons for selecting the project and asset status at the time of commencement

ZAO ChEK.SU-VK is developing the Usinskoe manganese deposit in Kemerovo region. Its reserves are 98.5 million tons, including 5.7 million tons of oxide-bearing ore (average manganese grade is 26.4-27.5%), carbon-bearing ore – 92.8 million tons (19.48-19.7%). Total Russian manganese reserves amount to 148.2 million tons.

Strategic objectives of investments

Increasing asset capitalization

The major components of the project are:

  • Construction of an ore-dressing plant in the area of the Usinskoe deposit (2 open-pit mines, a ore-dressing plant, industrial and social infrastructure);
  • Other infrastructure facilities in the Republic of Khakassia (access roads, electric power transmission lines, and a loading/unloading terminal);
  • A complex of facilities for a metallurgical plant in Krasnoyarsk (a refinery, charge production units, warehouses and other industrial infrastructure facilities).

Quarries, construction of an ore-dressing plant and the launch of metallurgical production are planned for completion in 2013, and the factory will reach full capacity in 2016.

Results achieved

Work on establishing a vertically integrated holding company, specializing in manganese ore mining and construction of a metallurgical plant for smelting ferromanganese and ferromanganese silicon have been begun.
